Hidden away near historic downtown Inverness, we discovered this quaint little restaurant built inside a circa 1915 historic home.
The Mcleod House Bistro located at 207 N. Apopka Ave was a welcome surprise! They feature a delicious selection of Paninis, Flatbreads, Pastas, and Deserts. I had the Shrimp Scampi, and was delighted to find slivers of fresh garlic in the sauce. Laurie had the Scallop and Goat Cheese Pasta, she raved about the leeks. For desert we shared a generous slice of Red Velvet Cake.. With Tip $40
We arrived about 6pm and sat outside on the RD 727 Deck out back, Candle light, and a full moon made it a special evening.
As Citrus county grows, we are beginning to see more, and more of the franchised, cookie-cut, mass market restaurants. It's refreshing to see a home-town Bistro. :)
The entrance to the parking lot is hidden at the back of the City lot on Pine Ave. It's a little hard to find if you don't know it's there.
The RD 727 Deck features a live band on Saturday nights.
Non-smokers will be pleased to hear that the large rear deck is non-smoking, smoking is limited to 4 tables near the outdoor bar on the north side of the building.
According to "Back Home A History of Citrus County" by Hampton Dunn:
A football-playing family put Citrus County in Ripley's "Believe It or Not!" column in 1956. A McClod boy -- sometimes two or three boys -- had played on every Citrus High School football team for the past 23 years, the cartoonist reported. ( This string ran to 28 years, ending in 1961).
The boys were Reams, Bud, Ernest, Harvey, Ray, Bill, Harold, C.J., Terry, and Joe. They were the sons of Mr. and Mrs. O.P. McLeod. In addition to the 10 sons, there were two daughters, Eloise and Kate.
